چکیده
Modern cities are constantly growing and evolving. This expansion of urban development bleeds into the surrounding landscapes, causing displacement disturbance native plant animal species to remote areas where topography limits human access. As a result, metropolitan often become gray places with low biodiversity, elevated temperatures, poor air quality, flood issues, lack local identity. Carbon and nutrient stocks in roots of forests at different altitudes in the Ecuadorian Andes
Carbon and nutrient stocks in below-ground biomass have rarely been investigated in tropical montane forests. Inthepresentstudy, theamountsofcarbon, nitrogen, phosphorus, sulphur, potassium, calciumandmagnesium in root biomass were determined by soil coring and nutrient analysis in forests at three altitudes (1900, 2400 and 3000m) in the Ecuadorian Andes. Root biomass increased markedly from 2.8 kg...
متن کاملThe Medieval Climate Anomaly and the Little Ice Age in the eastern Ecuadorian Andes
To better characterize the climate variability of the last millennium in the high Andes, we analyzed the pollen content of a 1150-yr-old sediment core collected in a bog located at 3800 m a.s.l. in the páramo in the eastern Cordillera in Ecuador. An upslope convective index based on the ratio between cloud transported pollen from the Andean forest to the bog (T) and Poaceae pollen frequencies, ...

15 صفحه اولAltitudinal distribution, diversity and endemicity of Carabidae (Coleoptera) in the páramos of Ecuadorian Andes
Species richness and diversity of Carabidae (Coleoptera), as well as rates of endemicity, are studied along altitudinal transects in the páramo of Ecuadorian Andes, from 3500 to 5000 m. Whereas a global tendency to reduction of species richness is evident from 4200 m upwards, two zones of high diversity and high proportion of endemic species occur at 3800–4000 m and at 4200–4400 m. Species turn...
